The Brief

Charlton HR were engaged to deliver a series of half-day workshops on Diversity and Equality to trustees, volunteers and staff working for Age UK Bristol (then Age Concern) to support the organisation to implement its Equality & Diversity Policy.


To raise awareness of diversity issues and its impact on the work of Age Concern Bristol.  Equal opportunity is generally understood and there is a range of legislation covering it. However, the concept of promoting diversity is less well understood.


How to help in implementing Age Concern’s diversity policy
Explore the difference between equal opportunities and diversity,
Reflect on your own and colleagues behaviour in valuing diversity.
How to identify prejudices and avoid making assumptions.


An active and varied experience with the use of some video clips, some small group work and some time for individual reflection. 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session participants should:

  • Know the difference between Equal Opportunities & Diversity
  • Have developed an awareness of the nature of prejudice
  • Explored some of their own assumptions, beliefs & values
  • Agreed at least one specific action to take to further their own awareness & understanding of Diversity
